GUEST OF HONOUR AT THE FRANKFURT BOOK FAIR 2019: LITERARY PRELUDE IN LEIPZIG

"Norway - The Dream in Us" is the motto of this year's guest of honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair (16-20 October 2019). At a press conference in Leipzig, Norway celebrated the launch of its literary program in 2019. Over the next few days, 18 Norwegian authors and their books will be in the limelight. Around 40 events are planned on the exhibition grounds and in the city of Leipzig, and they make people curious about a diverse literary and music scene. The program is organised by NORLA (Norwegian Literature Abroad). 

About the guest of honour 
Norway is the guest of honour at the Frankfurt Book Fair in 2019. Organiser of the guest country appearance is NORLA - Norwegian Literature Abroad. NORLA organizes the host country visit on behalf of the Norwegian Government and the Norwegian Bookkeeping. NORLA was founded in 1978 and has contributed to the translation of some 5,500 Norwegian books in 66 languages ??since 2004 alone. The Frankfurt Book Fair, which takes place from October 16 to 20, 2019, is the world's largest trade fair for publishing. The host country presents its literature and culture at the fair, in the city of Frankfurt and in many other places in Germany. Norway's guest of honour is under the motto "The Dream in Us", based on the poem of the Norwegian poet Olav H. Hauge.

GERMAN-NORWEGIAN LITERARY FESTIVAL IN OSLO: "TOWARDS FRANKFURT"
OVER 90 GERMAN-LANGUAGE AND NORWEGIAN AUTHORS CELEBRATE LITERATURE
 

From 26 to 28 April 2019, the German-Norwegian literary festival “Towards Frankfurt” in Oslo will offer a preview of what’s to come. Over 90 writers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Norway will read from their books and discuss the themes they explore in their works. Never before have this many German-language authors come together in Norway at the same time. 

There is great demand for Norwegian literature in Germany, and it is likely to continue to grow this year: Norway is the Guest of Honour at this year’s Frankfurter Buchmesse (16-20 October 2019). From 26 to 28 April 2019, the German-Norwegian literary festival “Towards Frankfurt” in Oslo will offer a preview of what’s to come. Over 90 writers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Norway will read from their books and discuss the themes they explore in their works. Never before have this many German-language authors come together in Norway at the same time. The guests include Melinda Nadj Abonji, Olga Grjasnowa, Judith Hermann, Elfriede Jelinek, Volker Kutscher, Melanie Raabe, Christoph Ransmayr, Ferdinand von Schirach, Marlene Streeruwitz and many others. 
The “Towards Frankfurt” literary festival aims to change that,as it also seeks to build a bridge to the Frankfurter Buchmesse. The opening ceremony of the German-Norwegian literary festival will take place at 7 pm on Friday, 26 April 2019, in the presence of HRH the Crown Princess Mette-Marit and the Mayor of Oslo, Marianne Borgen. Norwegian author Erik Fosnes Hansen will give the opening speech. In addition to established authors from Germany, Austria and Switzerland, numerous writers whose works have not yet been translated into Norwegian have also been invited. 

About the future of Europe, hybrid beings and the paradox of integration
The Norwegian writer Kjartan Fløgstad and author Theresia Enzensberger will discuss the connection between literature and architecture on the occasion of the Bauhaus centenary.

Successful storytelling and literary scandals  
In addition to conversations with authors, the varied programme of the three-day literary festival will also feature many other events. In two workshops, organised by TYSKFORUM – the Norwegian association for teachers of German .
