"Norway - The Dream in Us" is the motto of this year's guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair (16-20 October 2019). At a press conference in Leipzig, Norway celebrated the launch of its literary program in 2019. Over the next few days, 18 Norwegian authors and their books will be in the limelight. Around 40 events are planned on the exhibition grounds and in the city of Leipzig, and they make people curious about a diverse literary and music scene. The program is organized by NORLA (Norwegian Literature Abroad).

Speaking at the press conference were Marianne Hagen (Norwegian State Secretary for Foreign Affairs), Juergen Boos (Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair), Margit Walsø (Director of NORLA) and Halldór Guðmundsson (Project Leader of the Guest of Honor 2019).
"Norwegian literature is marked by a great diversity and strong voices in all genres. Being a guest of honor is an opportunity for us to share these voices and stories from Norway with the world and to encourage reading, "said NORLA director Margit Walsø.

The Norwegian State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Marianne Hagen, paid tribute to the status of her country's guest of honor from a political point of view: "It is a unique opportunity for Norway to be guest of honor at the Frankfurt Book Fair. We will not only present our diverse literature and culture, but also use the Book Fair as a platform to defend, promote and debate our common values ??- human rights, democracy and freedom of expression - together with our German and international partners. "

THE INVITATION PROGRAMME FOR PUBLISHERS FROM COUNTRIES WITH DEVELOPING BOOK INDUSTRIES

Dates of the programme: 10 - 21 October 2019.

The Invitation Programme offers small independent publishing companies from Africa, the Arab world, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean the chance to participate in the world's biggest book fair.

For publishing companies from these regions, globalisation is a two-edged sword. Access to the world market seems easier thanks to all-pervasive communications. At the same time, the advance of new conglomerates makes it harder to break into the market. The main goal of the Frankfurter Buchmesse Invitation Programme is to guarantee the presence of a select group of around 20 publishing houses at the industry's biggest get-together.
The guest publishers attend a two-and-a-half-day seminar before the Book Fair, which provides wide-ranging information on the German book market and international publishing.
